I'm still here!

I haven't been very good at keeping on top of my website or social media presence lately! Once I slip out I always find it hard to get back into the swing of things, but here I am, trying!

So what have I been up to? The biggest job I've had recently is our new daughter Freja, she is amazing but definitely keeps me busy! I had a fantastic maternity leave making new friends and filling my boots with this new baby world of inspiration. I was so inspired that I wrote a new story full of babies! Freja is my new no.1 fan, I love seeing her reactions to my characters, my heart could burst some days!

I've started work again now and have some fantastic commissions lined up with some wonderful publishers! It's VERY exciting to be back!! Watch this space... I promise I won't leave it so long next time!

Truck, Truck, Goose! Published and very well received!

A story with limited text, nearly unlimited trucks, a picnicking goose, and a bevy of adorable animals.

Sauer embeds bespectacled Goose’s picnic to-do list into the copyright-page illustration: “Choose picnic spot. / Pack a big lunch. / Take everything I need.” Otherwise, the text is mostly limited to repetitions of the word “Truck” with the occasional “Goose!” in emulation of the familiar children’s game. The picnic spot Goose chooses is on a grassy area at the center of a nearby traffic circle, and Goose comically takes three cartloads of supplies from home, including a big red piano. Various kinds of trucks driven by other anthropomorphic animals drive around the circle while Goose plods along with his loads, but the “Truck… / Truck… /  Truck…” traffic halts when the red piano falls into the road. Goose seems unbothered and sets up a picnic, donning headphones and sunglasses to relax. The animal drivers, however, are frustrated by the ensuing traffic jam until a new truck affixed with a crane comes and moves it. Exultant, the animals’ joy is only heightened by the arrival of a new truck on the scene—this time an ice cream truck driven by not another Goose but “MOOSE!” Waring’s bright, digital cartoon illustrations include pleasingly rounded, expressive characters that add great humor to the text, while the illustrated trucks, unnamed by the limited text, invite identification by listeners.

Don’t duck this picture book. (Picture book. 1-4)

More Cat and Dog co-editions! EEK!!

I've just been sent some exciting news and pictures of new covers - Cat and Dog is now available in Complex Chinese (Taiwan) and Korean! The Chinese version comes as part of a reading set with a pen that apparently projects the images onto a wall. I'm going to have to find out more and try to get my mitts on one of these! Great to see our little guys travelling the world!

MARKET fever

I held my first EVER little stall on Saturday at The North East Product and Talent Market! This takes place once a month at The Cluny, Newcastle upon Tyne (two doors down from Seven Stories!). It brings together a group of fantastic and friendly artists, designers and makers! I came home with a super Christmas present haul of my own. It was lovely to chat to so many locals who popped in for a spot of shopping and I had such a great response to my work. YAY!

Big thanks to my amazing husband for all his help too - best stall side-kick ever!

Next I'll be taking part in the Jesmond Dene Market  Saturday 19th November. I'll be selling some little framed originals, mounted prints, christmas cards and other crafty items, as well as signing copies of my latest illustrated book Cat and Dog!

Here's a little pic of what to expect with a few added extras planned! Find me in the visitor centre classroom, next to Pets Corner...the perfect location for all my little animals!

Goose is back in town!

I'm currently getting stuck into the artwork for the second of two books, written by the super talented author, Tammi Sauer. The first; Truck, Truck, Goose! I finished earlier this year and can now share a little taste of what to look forward to! (I can't give too much away, so have cropped into their funny little faces for now!)

These are just a few of the characters who appear up in this busy book. I counted and there are in-fact 25 different animals!! And 17 different colourful trucks! You'll be able to try to spot them all when Truck, Truck, Goose! publishes in Summer 2017 with Katherine Tegan Books - Harper Collins U.S.

Watch this space for more publishing previews!

No Hugs for Porcupine

I've just finished my artwork for No Hugs for Porcupine! I've been working with the lovely team at Running Press Kids, part of the Hachette group. This is my first author-illustrator book and it was a wonderfully collaborative experience. It's been so lovely finishing the art as the leaves have begun to fall, perfect weather for Porcupine and all his woodland friends.

Here's a sneak peek at some of the huggable characters you'll find in the book!

Cat and Dog travel the world!

I received some exciting news on the progress of Cat and Dog! They have been jet-setting around the world and have had a phenomenal year!

Since publishing last July, they have sold over 36,000 copies!

And that's only the English editions... Which are publishing now not only in the UK, USA & Australia, but have travelled to Spain, Malaysia, South Africa, Iran and Azerbaijan!

They also have co-editions in an additional five languages - publishing in Holland, Mexico, Canada, Sweden and most recently Taiwan!!

Pats on the back to all at Top That Publishing and the lovely author, Helen Oswald!

High-five team! (And low-paws to all the cats and dogs out there!)

Here are the Swedish, Dutch and Spanish editions...

No Hugs For Porcupine

Hooray for hugs!

My debut author-illustrated book has just been acquired by Running Press Kids

It's a story about a little Porcupine who craves a cuddle, but unfortunately he just can't be hugged. Rabbit, Owl and Beaver mock our poor little Porcupine. So the prickly character, full of grumps and huffs, sets off on a lone adventure through the forest. There he meets Armadillo and discovers something that is just as good as a hug.

It's going to be jam packed with cute forest creatures... and I'm sure by the end of it you'll all want to hug Porcupine!

Truck, truck, Goose!

I've recently delivered artwork for Truck, Truck, Goose! The first of two books written by the super talented author Tammi Sauer, publishing with Katherine Tegan Books an Imprint of Harper Collins U.S. I can't wait to be able to show you a sneak peak of the artwork! I had a ridiculous amount of fun with a brilliant cast of characters! Goose being the star of the show!

I've just started on my rough sketches for the second title (VERY exciting!!!). All I can say for now, without giving tooooo much away, is that it's got a fantastic hook!

Here's the deal which was announced in Publishers Weekly!

Harper Lands New Sauer Pic Books
In a two-book world rights deal, picture book author Tammi Sauer sold Truck, Truck, Goose and an untitled picture book to Jill Davis at Harper’s Katherine Tegen Books imprint. Sauer, a former teacher and author of more than 20 picture books, will be working with illustrator Zoe Waring. Both titles are based on the game duck, duck, goose, according to Laura Rennert at the Andrea Brown Literary Agency, who represented Sauer. Rennert said the books riff on the game and feature an “irrepressible, adorable goose” as well as, in the first title, “12 different kinds of trucks.” Waring was represented in the deal by Anne Moore Armstrong at the Bright Agency. Truck, Truck, Goose is set for a summer 2017 release, and the other book for a summer 2018 release.
